If you’ve ever hired a photographer, you may have noticed that they don’t provide RAW images as part of their package. There are a few reasons for this that I will explain in this blog post. The main reason is that when you hire a photographer, you are not just paying them to take photos. You are paying them for the whole process of a session, from brainstorming locations to delivering the final edited gallery.
Keep reading to learn why your photographer doesn’t give RAW images.

The RAW file format is an uncompressed, unprocessed image file that gives you access to all the data captured by the camera. This is why RAW files are much larger than standard image formats like JPEG and TIFF. While RAW files are great for editing, they are not ideal for everyday use. Your photographer likely doesn’t provide RAW images because they are not suitable for printing or sharing online. RAW files require special processing before they can be used in any meaningful way and they are not optimized for digital delivery.
Your photographer likely provides images in a different format, such as JPEG or TIFF. These files are smaller and more widely used than RAW files, which makes them ideal for printing and sharing online. Additionally, these file formats are already processed and ready to use. At the end of the day, you don’t need RAW images for most uses. JPEG and TIFF files are more than sufficient for most uses, such as printing and sharing online.

Since the Raw image is unedited by the photographer, many photographers consider it quite disrespectful when a client asks for RAW images. When you choose a photographer, you are choosing their editing style. Photographers show their style through their editing. It’s the way they express their creativity and stand out from all the other photographers. A RAW image will not be a good representation of a photographers years of perfecting their editing and personal style.
Like I said before when you hire a photographer you are not just paying them to take photos. When it comes to photography, editing is a crucial part of the process. Editing allows photographers to enhance the lighting, colors, and composition of an image. It also allows them to make subtle changes to an image that can make a huge difference in the overall look and feel of the final product. Editing is truly an art form and a crucial part of the photography process. Unedited images are often dark and dull, and can lack the vibrancy and clarity that comes with a professional edit. This can be especially true for photos taken in low-light settings or with certain camera settings. Additionally, unedited images can contain flaws, such as dust spots, lens flares, and noise, which can be difficult to remove without editing.
Overall, there are a lot of reasons why your photographer doesn’t give RAW images. I hope this blog gave you some insight as to why this is such an important issue in the realm of photography.
